THE NATIONAL NETWORK OF ABORTION FUNDS BUILDS POWER WITH MEMBERS TO REMOVE FINANCIAL AND LOGISTICAL BARRIERS TO ABORTION ACCESS BY CENTERING PEOPLE WHO HAVE ABORTIONS AND ORGANIZING AT THE INTERSECTIONS OF RACIAL, ECONOMIC, AND REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE.

vision

WE ENVISION A WORLD WHERE EVERY REPRODUCTIVE DECISION, INCLUDING ABORTION, TAKES PLACE IN THRIVING COMMUNITIES THAT ARE SAFE, PEACEFUL, AND AFFORDABLE. WE ENVISION A WORLD WHERE ALL PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER AND RESOURCES TO CARE FOR AND AFFIRM THEIR BODIES, IDENTITIES, AND HEALTH FOR THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES—IN ALL AREAS OF THEIR LIVES. AS WE SHIFT THE CONVERSATION ABOUT ABORTION, IT WILL BECOME A REAL OPTION, ACCESSIBLE WITHOUT SHAME OR JUDGMENT.

NEED AN ABORTION?

THE NATIONAL NETWORK OF ABORTION FUNDS IS HERE TO CONNECT YOU WITH ORGANIZATIONS THAT CAN SUPPORT YOUR FINANCIAL AND LOGISTICAL NEEDS AS YOU ARRANGE FOR YOUR ABORTION. FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

  1. Find out if you have insurance that covers your abortion. Call your insurance company to ask if abortion is a covered benefit, and ask for an in-network clinic. You can often find their phone number on the back of your insurance card. If you know you have Medicaid, check this information to find out if your state covers abortion.
  2. Make an appointment at a clinic for your abortion before searching for funding. Call different clinics to find which one costs the least. Tell the clinic if you can’t afford it and ask if there are any discounts. It’s fine to make an appointment for your abortion even if you’re not sure how you’ll pay for it. Clinics don’t charge you for rescheduling. Find a clinic.
  3. Add up how much you can cover on your own. Abortion funds often don’t have the money to cover the entire cost of your abortion, so any money you can contribute will be important.
  4. Use the search box and map below to find abortion funds that can help cover expenses. Search the state where your clinic appointment is located AND search in your home state if they are not the same. That way you’ll have more places to call for funding.
  5. Read the instructions before you contact an abortion fund on the list. You’ll find out if you qualify for funding and learn the best way to contact them.
  6. Contact lots of places. There may be more than one local or national abortion fund that can help you with your abortion or other things you need on your way to getting an abortion such as transportation and childcare. Find out what to expect when you call abortion funds.

INCREASING SEVERE VIOLENCE AND THREATS AGAINST WOMEN’S HEALTH CLINICS…

Severe anti-abortion violence and threats of violence against abortion providers has dramatically increased in the last two years. The percentage of clinics impacted by the violence and threats has increased from 19% of clinics in 2014 to 34% in 2016. These disturbing findings show the need for increased law enforcement response.

For over four decades abortion providers throughout the United States have been under attack. There have been thousands of violent incidents including blockades, invasions, chemical attacks, arsons, bombings, death threats, sniper attacks, and cold-blooded murder. Since 1993, 12 abortion providers, first responders, patient supporters, and volunteers have been murdered by anti-abortion extremists; 30 others have been wounded, some critically.

WHEN DID THE RIGHT TO LIFE BECOME THE RIGHT TO TERRORIZE?

Feminist Majority Foundation’s National Clinic Access Project, which was launched in 1989, leads efforts nationwide to reduce anti-abortion violence, to keep women’s health personnel and patients safe, to keep clinics open, and to bring violent anti-abortion extremists to justice.

The Feminist Majority Foundation has conducted periodically since 1993 a National Clinic Violence Survey measuring anti-abortion violence, intimidation, and harassment. This survey is one of the most comprehensive studies of anti-abortion violence and harassment directed at clinics, patients, and health care workers in the United States and includes abortion providers of various organizational affiliations as well as independent clinics.

FACTS ON ANTI-ABORTION VIOLENCE

Anti-abortion violence isn’t occurring in a vacuum. Abortion providers are harassed, intimidated, and terrorized with WANTED-style posters around their homes, schools, and places of worship. Abortion providers are personally harassed and threatened at 46.4% of abortion clinics. READ MORE.

WALKING THE GAUNTLET

The harassment and intimidation of clinic workers and women outside the clinics creates a hostile environment that often leads to violence. READ MORE.
